a new read

recently, some co-workers organized a book swap at work.  slowly, the collection of books started growing & i eagerly searched through in hopes of finding a goodie.

for christmas, S gave me a kindle.  something that i had wanted so badly, but had not expected.... the perfect kind of gift to receive.  although, i don't miss holding a book & turning its pages, it's sort of nice to hold a book & turn its pages...haha.

back to the swap: i picked up two books i'm eager to read while on hold for e-books from the library. i have already started the first.

the last letter from your lover: a novel by jojo moyes

this has been quite the page turner & i love how it is unraveling this far.  amazon says:

"A sophisticated, page-turning double love story spanning forty years-an unforgettable Brief Encounter for our times.

It is 1960. When Jennifer Stirling wakes up in the hospital, she can remember nothing-not the tragic car accident that put her there, not her husband, not even who she is. She feels like a stranger in her own life until she stumbles upon an impassioned letter, signed simply "B", asking her to leave her husband.

Years later, in 2003, a journalist named Ellie discovers the same enigmatic letter in a forgotten file in her newspaper's archives. She becomes obsessed by the story and hopeful that it can resurrect her faltering career. Perhaps if these lovers had a happy ending she will find one to her own complicated love life, too. Ellie's search will rewrite history and help her see the truth about her own modern romance.

A spellbinding, intoxicating love story with a knockout ending, The Last Letter from Your Lover will appeal to the readers who have made One Day and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society bestsellers."

the second book i picked up from was barefoot: a novel by elin hilderbrand.

says amazon:
" Three women arrive at the local airport, observed by Josh, a Nantucket native home from college for the summer. Burdened with small children, unwieldy straw hats, and some obvious emotional issues, the women-- two sisters and one friend--make their way to the sisters' tiny cottage, inherited from an aunt. They're all trying to escape from something: Melanie, after seven failed in-vitro attempts, learned her husband was having an affair, and then discovered she's pregnant; Brenda embarked on a passionate affair with an older student that got her fired from her prestigious job as a professor in New York; and her sister Vicki, mother to two small boys, has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Soon Josh is part of the chaotic household, acting as babysitter, confidant, and, eventually, lover. "

review to come!

i recently finished girls in white dresses by jennifer close.

unfortunately, this was one of those books that had too many characters to keep track of & too many story lines that were too similar. i was confused most of the book & kept waiting for something to happen. even up to the last three pages, i was searching for a storyline. at the end, i was still waiting for something to happen.  if you have read this book before, i would love to know your thoughts! perhaps i was missing something with this book!

so, about that..

i was so excited to finally watch due date this weekend..and immediately after clicking "publish post" on friday's post, i ripped open the red netflix envelope to discover:

cop out?
ummm, while i'm sure this movie is wonderful & funny, this is NOT what I was expecting. soooooo instead, we watched the hangover for the umpteenth time.  never gets old! i love that movie (even if i fell asleep 40 minutes into it!) honestly, i needed to get my zach galifianakus fix!

i guess i'm not the only one who is super excited to watch due date, because netflix has notified me that it will not be available until march 22nd...ok, i'll wait..

in other recap info: i am very happy to report that my recent brooks purchase was indeed a good one.  brooks is by far the most comfortable & supportive running shoe i have ever experienced.  if you are looking for a new running shoe, i very highly recommend brooks!

on the job front: i have nothing new & excited to report:(
it is depressing, and i'm sad about it.
but, i saw this:

while i may not have the dream job, (or dream car, dream house, etc...) i, by no means, live a tough life. i have the best boyfriend a girl could ask for, some pretty fabulous girlfriends, & and an amazing family. i can say that, job stress aside, i am happy..and more importantly, healthy.

i hope you had a wonderful weekend!

a change of plans & the best compliment of my life!

i was in a slump all day yesterday.

i've been slowly sinking into a mild depression due to the fact that i am so unhappy with my job status.  i'm 26 years old & at this point in my life i feel that i am too old to be working two jobs.  i'm so frustrated that i need to have a part time job. the job market is horrible right now & i know i should be thankful to have one job, let alone two. and although i have been looking for something new for some time now, it seems like whenever something good comes along, i get too hopeful & it just doesn't work out.

so anyway, this slump was ultimately due to the fact that shawn & i were invited to a party & had to say no because i had to work.  but around 4:00 my phone rang & it was my boss unexpectedly giving me the night off!
with the excitement of this news, i quickly became un-slumped and energized.  i changed my clothes & went o the gym. after the gym, we made some dinner & got ready for the party! woohoo:)

fast forward to the party:

courtney & me

courtney had so kindly extended an invite to a party at her SIL-to-be's house.  which, by the way, was an amazingly gorgeous & awesome loft in northern liberties.

while at the get together, i recieved the compliment of a lifetime from courtney and her fiance fred.  they told me that they often have conversations about MY HUGS and how i give THE BEST HUGS. they must have seen the look of shock & flattery on my face because they proceeded to ask me, "You have to be kidding, no one has ever told you this before?"
NO! i had no idea i was the giver of the best hugs!
i'm so excited & quite flattered.
thanks court & fred=)
i love this pic of court with the bread head & look how smiley freddie is in the background!

i fell in love with the couch in the man cave<3

also, thanks to the boss man for giving me a much needed night off.
and keep your positive thoughts coming this way- i'm waiting to hear something on the job front!

*****
today's agenda includes: some gym time; a quick errand to home depot to gather materials needed to hang some paintings; a stop at the farmers market; and then kabobs on the grill for dinner!

have a lovely sunday!
